A clip is a small piece of metal that holds loose cartridges together so you can load them into the magazine more easily. Very few pistols ues clips, mainly the Mauser C96 and variants.

:)

The max number of mags should be more than 6. I can carry 9 m4 mags on my BALCS and I am not running anything out of the ordinary. I know guys who carry alot more.

You running around during shooting practiice carrying 9 magazines is slightly different to a soldier who has to carry his personal weapon, all the ammo for that, spare ammo for the squads machine gun, body armour and also however much weight on his back, while being shot at.

In the Falklands war the British soldiers were carrying so much weight in their Bergens, that if they fell over they needed help from two other soldiers to be pulled to their feet! I'm pretty sure the weight the U.S soldiers carry is comparible, so yes carrying an extra 3 magazines probably does make a difference. Not to mention the logistics problems, if every soldier carried and extra 3 magazines thats a hell of a lot of extra ammo thats needed.

Three magazines shouldn't weight too much. You probably wouldn't notice it because of the weight of the body armor lol.

That'd have to be a lot of 5.56, because that stuff is not very heavy, at all. Three extra magazines might weigh a total of 3 pounds combinesd, so it's not really noticeable when adding on to a full pack.

Also, you don't store ammo in a backpack, unless you have the mini-gun from Predator. They're called magazine pouches (or clip pouches if you're using a bolt action/some semi-autos). They fit on the belt and/or harness.

I never said you store magazines in your backpack.

As for noticing the weight... When I began to go in for mountain tourism, I was surprised when the girls in charge of who carries what were measuring the weight of dry soup and teabags. By the end of the first day on route I understood... An extra mag is a hell big weight when you are striding mountains and forests for days. Recently read a Soviet infantry field regulation and it says that running in an armor west, backpack, full ammo and gun for more than 100 meters is forbidden due to possible spine injury.

The thing is when your carrying a massive bulk adding to that does make a difference even if it is only 3 magazines. Have you heard the phrase 'the straw that broke the camels back'?

well for the most part they don't carry the packs into the battle when your fighting 90 pounds on your back is a liability

I jumped in here late and didn't read any of the posts because I'm gonna be lazy.

I hope. No, I PRAY, that there will be no health/ammo packs in this game.

This isn't Halo or Counterstrike kids.

Actually, CS has no specific ammo packs or health packs.

But wouldn't you like it if one could get bullets of like calibre from dead bodies and use them (in harder difficulties you'd have to load them into magazines).

The saying is to true. I've often to carry 30-35kg around - easy with ropes and other climbing stuff - and more than 90 pounds for days and weeks, and I can say that even a small increase makes a big difference in the mountains. I'm a tall 6' 4 strong man so the relation between my weight and the rucksack is not that bad as for others. The small Gurkhas are just amazing in this regard.

Funny fact that IMHE the guys from the USA I had the pleasure to meet struggled more than most. Don't know why, they look big and strong but seem to lack the legs, at least high up in the mountains. Seems that they hardly train there...

Every piece of equipment less is a blessing, trust me. 6 magazines should be enough. No health packs, please. No mags popping up from the ground

Mzybe they could put in things like health cabinets that are tucked away in safe zones or medic NPCs so that all this crap about how many health packs you can carry becomes useless. It would seem more realistic to me if you went into to health stations rather than carrying around 50 medpacks with all you gear.

The only way I want to see a health pack or ammo is if someone is assigned to that specific role like in bf2 with medics that can throw them on the ground.
