I think it would be best to get experienced beta testers. Nothing against you (I've never officially beta tested myself), but it would work out better for Alliance.

I have beta tested games before and could be a great help to Alliance. :D

I've beta tested 2 games so I pwn you ALL!!!!!!!! LOL JK, hate the word pwn.

Anyways considering all the stuff in Alliance is proprietary I doubt they would open a semi-public beta. Yes it would be awesome if they did, but I highly doubt it considering this game is at least a year off from "release."

Posting in hella old thread lol

You have the option to purchase weapons in the WarStudio before each level and rarely within a level itself.

As far as the rate of acquisition is concerned, you're generally going to have to play through the game more than once to collect/purchase every single weapon (some will be hidden). At the end of one playthrough you'll probably have every single weapon that you like a lot though.

This got me wondering how inventory will be handled.. When you kill an enemy, will you be able to select only specific things you want to collect? Also, im not really a big fan of in most games how picking things up merely involves walking over them. It's another little detail that serves to take you out of the experience. I was hoping for something more believable like actually having to reach down and open an enemies pouch to take spare mags, etc. This will take time, granted as opposed to the traditional system but it would add some tension to things.

I'll divulge a little bit about how we're planning on doing it (at least now, we'll see how it plays) - variable pick up amount. You will have the option to do a quick pick up ("oh shit! Ammo's out, drop my gun and fuckin grab something!!") which is almost as fast as walking over, only grabs the gun and the one mag that's in it, etc. Or, you will have the option to selectively decide which weapon (primary, secondary) to replace, with a loading bar similar to a Counter Strike bomb defusing, the latter stages of which are the swapping of your mags for his, etc. And then, thirdly, since we will actually be modeling correct magazine compatibility, the option to strip off rounds of ammo to reload into your own mags. This will of course consume the most time, but has its purpose. It too will be represented by a loading bar once you select it (individual animation would be murder :) ), but will be much slower.

So, as always, mimicking life- "oh shit, grab a gun and keep fighting!" ... "hmm, drop my AR and go for his FAL + mags".... "ok, I got time here, strip off 7.62 rounds and load them into my CETME/G3 magazines."

Doing it any other way would just be...

silly.

Similar to the ArmA series. You can view a downed soldier's "kit" and select individual components to "pick up" (i.e. mags, grenades, rockets, primary weapons, secondary weapon, etc.), but not individual bullets.

Traditional inventory screens are sort of an immersion killer for me. Dragging and dropping icons from one window to another a la stalker usually only reminds me im playing a game.
