if anyone wants to play a new game I would highly recommend getting The Specialists mod for Half Life 1.

Its basically like playing the matrix on your computer theres slowmo, kung fu, tons of guns, stunts, etc.

To be honest the game is dying (though theres still a pulse) due to how old it is, changes made in 3.0, and due to the large number of asshats.

Anyway ive been playing it off and on for years, love it and figured id post bout it in the mess hall :P

(the learning curve is steepish so message me if youd like tips n tricks lol)

jason, i still have that movie that the admins made on that RP server. AND the videos we (poorly) made :D

The Specialists by itself is great fun. But Role playing servers, especially with cool admins is just so much more enjoyable.

I have them on one of my hard drives in one of the backups of one my installations of Windows... this may take some time...

Spiff: RP is roleplaying. On a RP server in the Specialists, you don't really go around killing people. You get a job, you can 'buy' houses (until you buy them, you can't enter them, and once you buy them, you can open/close doors and such). There are police, and if you get caught doing 'illegal' things (killing other players or stealing money), they can take you to jail.

Most of the RP servers are kind of dull (think of the Sims, but from the first person). The RP server Bigdaddy and I played on was run by this guy that gave no fucks. Instead of jobs like fast food, banking, or politicians, there were three or four gangs. The KKK, the Black Panthers, the Police, and the IRA (if I recall correctly). Each gang had their own hideout with weapon spawns, and even a legal front (a bar or restaurant). You could also buy things like alcohol and drugs (drinking a bunch of vodka would cause you to stagger around and you'd black out for a while).

Good times, lol.

I still have the player model for the boss of the KKK, the Grand Dragon - it's a guy wearing black KKK robes, with a picture of Adolf Hitler on the front of his hood, and his right arm was permanently in a Nazi salute XD!!!!

man I remember trying that mod out too!
The fighting mechanics on it where amazing for a simple Half-Life mod.
For Role Playing servers, I don't know about The Specialists, but I remember that counter strike servers had prison maps where the terrorists acted as prisoners and had to obey the guards while trying to escape. I remember how I used to cheat by having a friend on the counter-terrorist side who would pass me guns and smoke bombs. I would then try to create a riot and escape in the chaos.

A role playing server like that on TS would be awesome.

It would be awesome to organize a game night and revive this amazing mod.
Damn I miss the games of the 90's/early 2000's.

I remember destroying you in CSS at the gun game (where you progress through different guns as you get kills)
