I'd like to see a list of the features in the Alliance engine, or is it all under wraps? Thanks.

Various features have been discussed throughout the forums.

Try looking in the graphics thread.

Or, perhaps Sox or DerMan will show up with some links

That would actually be very nice. :)

The engine supports AFAIK :
-Light refraction
-High dynamic range rendering
-Shader model 3.0

That's all I know. There's a sizable batch of questons in the "Question thread' that have yet to be answered. :(

That's because you ask super specific questions that are scores in length ;)

Just hang around. Eventually media will be released and questions will be answered.

Unless they release a comprehensive engine video, it might be hard to determine what features the engine supports. It can be very hard to interpret screenshots.

Well, I were to ask "is them there grafiks any good", that wouldn't realy be very usefull. That's just the way that graphics go. You can't make any decisions unless you know precisely what the engine can do.

Besides this doesn't seem like too many
Does Alliance use a per pixel lighting model?

Does Alliance support colored lights?

Can lighting be animated in the editor?

Does Alliance use virtual displacement mapping?

Can we assign reflection maps in the editor?

Can these reflection maps be combined with other channeles, such as specular, diffuse, refreaction, etc?

Sox, in case you missed it :

More graphical questions

Does the Alliance engine support :
-colored lights
-high dynamic range (lighting)
-self shadowing
-motion blur
-iridescent materials
-Can the alliance engie do everything in the first 30 seonds of this video : http://files.ausgamers.com:85/downloads ... cktime.zip
In particular :
how the glowing object is distorted when looking when looked at through the transpartent object

and

how the view of the cobe object distortes/changes when it rotates/you rotate around it

->Aside from wind light, what other lighting features does the Alliance engine have? Are all common lighting techniques suported?
======
Can we create level geometry in the editor?

From what I see in the screenshots, I guess the engine employs shadow maps. Will there be support for soft shadow maps such as ones seen here: http://www.gamedev.net/reference/articl ... le2193.asp ? I've seen in the videos shadows cast on characters, but do they self shadow? Is anisotropic lighting supported?

Yay! I'm not the only graphics freak here! :D

I think there's self shadowing and there might be depth mapped as well.

Quoted for the truth!

God I love Star Craft. Quite possibly the best RTS ever made. I think it was Game of the Year for like 5 years running. I'm pretty sure it's also the national past time of Korea, and I think they use unopened copies of Star Craft as currency....

Anyway. You can have the greatest graphics known to man, but if the gameplay is horrible, most people won't be able to stand it.

This is a graphics thread guys. This isn't the place to bring up the age old issue.

First off, the graphics on the BF are outdated.

Second, off, I know that gameplay matters too. What part of this thread implied otherwise?

EA is just being itself...

Yeah. Piss off, other people.

So, getting back on topic. Yeah, it would be a good thing. Just about every developer out there has a comprehensive section on their site.

I mean, they have windlight and Nimble and they both look great, but there's more that I'm curious about. :)

So.. I figure the place is basically divided into two groups. The realism group and the graphics group. Huh, that's interesting... :o
