I was wondering if in Alliance, you would be able to change settings on your scope, like snipers do for long distance shots. It would make sniping be a truly hard thing to do.

Or will it just be the standard, "aim up a bit and lead the target" system, like in RO?

Yes. At higher realism settings, you will have to adjust your sights manually for distance. Windage won't be taken into account though.

would depend on the scope too, some scopes have a totally different system, and older scopes are much less effective.

one example is hte mosin PU sniper, which when adjusted rather then the whole sight picture moving, only the crosshair moves, meaning the crosshair can be off center in the sight picture.

Also, please use authentic scope reticles. I hate games with every scope being a generic crosshair. >.<

I'd rather have proper eye positioning. I'm getting seriously peeved at games where you have the scope shoved into your eye socket. It's hard to shoot with blood in your eyes.

Both would be great though. :D

What do you mean?!? I'm a huge fan of those advanced, eyeball-mounted scope reticles. How did people shoot beforehand? ;)

That won't happen in Alliance, unless you specifically want it to look like that because your machine can't handle it otherwise.

Accurate scope reticles will be done to the best of our abilities, though I can't say for certain that we'll have the time or be able to find references for all of them. However, they won't all be the same set of crosshairs, we'll be trying to have them match the real ones.

How in depth will adjusting your scope be? Will it just be a matter of clicks in elevation or do you have to get the right settings in if you are using a mil-dot scope?

You adjust for elevation in clicks. We hope to have working mil-dots for as many scopes as possible.

Nice thing to know!
How about the glass quality? Some scope sucked at magnifying, quality (Tasco  ), etc.

That's quite a bit beyond what we'll be able to account for. Mods are welcome to try though.

Will they be modelled scopes or textured scopes?

(Please say modelled! >.<)

There's no wind so no windage.

Modelled, though we'll include a textured option as a fallback.

No windage. To quote myself:
Sox34 wrote:
Windage will not be calculated in our ballistics.

It would make it too hard for most players to have to take the wind into account, especially due to the constraints of the videogame medium. The player wouldn't be able to feel the wind on them or see how it affects the folliage or dust on the terrain. Also even for a simplified case such as uniform wind velocity across the entire map and wind velocity somehow represented on the HUD, you'd need training to know how that will practically affect your bullet's travel for the distance that you are sighting at.
