But that's the beauty of alliance! We're not limiting ourselves to military guns! I believe the devs have mentioned that there will probably be some sporting guns.

Dont many hand guns use the 9mm? Like I said, im no expert, but if the same cartrige meant that the gun handles identically, then why would some people prefer one handgun, such as the glock over beretta?

It has nothing to do with the round in that case. Some prefer glock over beretta because of how it feels in your hand or how reliable it is over the other. The round will perform the same in a glock, Springfield, or beretta. The differences come in how the weapon is built. Handguns are a huge difference than almost any firearm, because your hands have to feel comfortable while you shoot. Thus, some people need bigger grips etc. The point I'm making is there isn't much need for 20 varieties of AK47's. 3 or 4 is find just nothing excessive.

I think whats needed is a sticky thread with a master list of weapons already suggested and confirmed.

That way the Official Weapon Suggestion Thread and the Official Confirmed Weapon thread stop overlapping and new folks will know whether they need to make a new post about a shiny new gun they found

Only thing is that itd take more than a minute to sift through every post of both threads...
maybe the devs could help in this regard?

Yeah, we'll clean this up soon. I keep trying to explain that, as a mathematical proof, given a long enough time span the WarStudio converges on all of them... ALL OF THEM :).

Basically, since our goal is to capture every firearm used at least since the late 1890s, there is no real issue of "will this gun be included?" The answer is almost always "Yes".

What we need is a wiki with the list, so people can just keep adding on to it. Ideally, we'll put some voting around it so you guys can play a part in the roll-out order.

But, the devs and I are busy on *ahem* other stuff right now :)

At some stupid range like 500 yards, nonetheless.

So alliance wont have vehicles and personally, i think theres nothing wrong with that allows us to focus on the infrantry experience. That was what i liked about the original insurgency so much and what realldly miss about games like infiltration. But what about weapon emplacements or something? You know maybe having a stationary mk19 on roof for example? It would make for some awesome ctf gameplay. ;)

I've played very few games where machine gun or heavy weapons emplacements actually added anything of value.

Either they're nerfed to the point of being less effective than individual players standing guard with shoulder fired weapons; or, rarely, they're rendered accurately and assaulting those positions, without vehicles, is suicidal.

I somewhat enjoyed the manner in which heavy weapons emplacements were implemented in Forgotten Hope: Secret Weapons. There were pick-up kits that would allow you to deploy a medium machine gun on a tripod with a decent amount of ammo, but there was a definite amount of ammo, which is important in my opinion. There were also M3 halftracks that could deploy them in the same manner. Some vehicles could also transport light field howitzers which was really cool, but that's another story altogether.

For certain scenarios, to preserve historical accuracy, yeah maybe. But in general, I don't think it'd be worthwhile to litter the map with medium machine guns that will likely end up unused.

Hehe, I actually remember having a lot of fun with the emplaced weapons in F.E.A.R though i admit they were hardly realistic. :P Im thinking this would encourage tactical thinking. It would make the sniper role much more coveted (I feel like this is something that isnt really emphasized that much.) You would need someone to hang back and and provide covering fire to protect their team against emplaced weapons. In addition, i feel like this would also encourage things like suppression and blind fire. Though as long as alliance has some weapons that go boom Im happy :)

Ive always wanted to see a game that handled weapons like the Milkor mgl right. The closest most games come is the m203 and even then this was one of the big reasons why i stopped playing call of duty. Most games allow you to get cheap kills on people like 5 feet away. I doubt this will be the case in alliance though. :) As someone with almost zero experience with weapons though, i hope there are in game tutorials or something to help us with things like using the ladder sights. I feel like there is alot of cool gameplay that can come from handling these things realistically.

Another alternative to this would be be to make things a little more portable. You could give people the option of carrying around an emplaced weapon (although they would be much slower) and then set it up. Now, the Mk19 is a little on the heavy side at 68 pounds, but if the game gave you the option of playing as me, this wont be too much of a problem lol. :P
