Who likes this idea?

Each team member can choose to start squads. People in squads could choose to send messages only to squad members.

That might be interesting if there was some communication between the teammates, after all, you dont want everyone walking around with RPG's or snipers...

Well, that's where weapon limits come in.

Anyone who's played BF2142 will know what I'm talking about.

Is it similar to BF2, because I've played that.

BF2142 is like BF2, but the squad system is a little more refined.

I particularly like squads because it lets you get together with your friends and you can always keep track of them.

Not sure. Sox won't be back for a while, and I can't really make any assumptions.

Didn't play either game enough to remember how their system worked in enough detail to answer. Care to fill me in?

In BF2 if the server had VOIP enabled you could only talk to the players in your squad and the squad leader could talk to the commander also the commander could only talk to the squad leaders. I think each squad you could have up to 6 people. It was pretty effecient because on a full server having 32 people on one channel would be horrendous.

If you are in a squad you could also spawn on the squad leader instead of just at your captured flags.

I really loved BF2142s approach to squads :
- Each squad leader could give orders to their squad mates.
- Members of a squad had to cmmunicate exclusively with other squad members via VOIP
- At the end of the game, the squads performance and accomplishments were noted in the post game progress report, in addition to the rest of the teams.

Something which I felt was missing (and that should be in Alliance) was the ability for the squad leaders to choose custom logos.

Yeah, it worked pretty well, but it was often hard to understand/hear the person talking. There should have been a "Voice Volume" option or something.

I think a squadsystem will do good in Alliance, because this is gonna be a very tactical game, call of duty, BF and rainbow six are very arcade like games, so in MP everybody is just working for themselves and are not working tactically. I think alliance might atract a more suffisticated adiance, and with the right MP systems, like squadsystems this could really be a cool game. In BF2 joining a squad just meant another spawnpoint. In alliance it could mean a lot more.

Yeah, there is a lto of pontential for tactics and teamwork in Alliance than im really looking foraward too
:D

I wonder if something could be implemented to encourage players even further to work as a team and stay together, beyond the fact that its a good idea.

Bonus points for working as a team?

Points could be used in the WarStudio, like tokens..

I agree. I believe some sort of squad system needs to be added to encourage teamwork. AA's system was nice :)

the aa system was nice, but the style of armament in aa, namely giving each person on a team a weapon based on position with little choice of alternatives, goes against alliance's "u can use anything" style. also, when i was an aa player, i never really saw that much teamwork. there was no in-game voip, and while there was a pretty simple and effective macro system, it was hardly ever used

for my squad setup, i would like the communication of bf2 (especially the commo rose, that thing is brilliant), but i like the more realistic squad setup of america's army, with ranks and the feeling of a real squad. couple things that would have to be improved upon in aa's method. first would be non-limiting weapon selection. maybe it could be a server option, but it cannot be default. second would be squad positioning. in aa, it got hard to coordinate because i couldn't keep track of my teammates, and would usually just follow a random guy or go on my own.

i also just came up with a cool idea: in game draw-on map. back when i played planetside, players with certain command ranks would be able to draw on the map and their whole squad would be able to see. something like this would be really cool in multiplayer and even single player, like the old ghost recon and rainbow six. it would be cool to also be able to mark the map with symbols, like machine gunner, sniper, mines, etc etc

Well I mean something like it that might change depending on server information. Red Orchestras system is good too.
